Latest Update on Donna

Hello Everyone, tis me Donna. I managed to make a deal with the neurologist yesterday to allow me home yesterday afternoon until Monday morning when I have to be back between 8 am and 9 am, just before the neurologists show up once again.

Anyways I had a brain MRI and a spinal MRI on Friday as well as a chest x-ray in the evening. I was wandering the halls of the hospital as I did everyday to stay mobile and I ran into the neurologist who had ordered the tests and asked if he had looked at them, and he hadn't but he did look at them and came back to see me later to say the Brain Scan was normal, but the spinal scan showed a problem which he was referring to the Spinal Team.

I saw the spinal team Saturday morning and they told me I have Spinal Stenosis, which explains the numbness, and tingling in my feet, so that will be treated as an outpatient they say, so at long last I know what's wrong with my spine...........hurray an answer at long last.

As for the numbness, tingling, in my hands and unsteady gait, and muscle weakness and no reflexes in my body, I heard them mention B12 deficiency, so I got on the internet last night and looked it up...........and I do believe they are right as I have more of those symptoms than those of Guillian Barre Syndrome......so I will be printing out all the infomation and arming myself with my usual self diagnosis thingys........lol

At least it's treatable once its diagnosed.......so fingers crossed it is that.

Anyway I would like to say thank you to everyone that has emailed me (Alan has been reading them all to me over the phone) left such lovely comments and also phoned.
Many of you have asked for my home address, if you contact Jackie at
semark262@btinternet.com

she can give you my home address. I didn't want to post it on my blog as I have been getting so much spam, I'd hate for some unscrupulous company or individual to have that information.

Now it's taken me an hour to type this (so hard to do when you have no feeling in your hands and are so unco-ordinated) I am off to sit on the sofa and spend some time with Alan and Kody, and get things ready to take back to the hospital tomorrow morning, as I have no idea how long they will keep me this time.

Thank you all and I love you all for your kindness, love and warm wishes.

~hugs~
Donna

Glad to hear you are home for a little while. I think it's great that you have some explanation as to what you are suffering from, as you said, that way it can be treated.
I hope it won't take too long and you will be healthy again soon.
Take care, and rest.
I am sure Alan is pampering you, he was so nice to keep us updated on how you are doing,
Thinking of you

Hiya Donna hunny,

So glad you are getting answers.

Glad you managed to get out of hospital - I am the exact same, they are lovely and usually so helpful in the hospital - BUT at any chance I get I will leave and go home.
Usually after I have pleaded with the Consultant!

Self diagnosis is more and more the thing these days and I get a tad annoyed at times but then again -it can save so much discomfort for you and save on too many proding tests too!

B12 deficiency sounds so minor to peeps but it is such a serious thing and effects the full body - this is a condition that basically means that your bodies reserve in your LIVER has been depleted and your body can not make anymore - A simnple injection over a period of time will balance out the deficiency and you will feel better.

The injection will be an ongoing treatment.

Get them to check your bloods for Thyroid problems too as B12 and Thyroid problems do tend to go hand in hand.

I had to ask for them to check my tests and only then did they notice that two blood tests showed a low result.

If you don't ask , they don't always notice!

All these things are treatable and manageble hunny!

NOT BY ANY MEANS a CURE but an ANSWER and an EXPLANATION make the situation a different ball game.

Wishing you relief and Answers to all your needs hunny!

I know your strong and very capable but I will be sending you lots of strength and a wish for a complete and full diagnosis!

Be strong and as you say and I also know - If you habve a plan and all the information - they have to look into it.

If you have not had a full blood screen yet ask for a FULL BLOOD SCREEN - NOT just the yellow and purple ones a FULL BLOOD SCREEN!

For an anemia test it is usually blood related but you can also be sent for a SHILLING TEST.

Thyroid test -blood
B12 - blood and shilling test

Good luck hunny
Be strong and tough on them - get the answers hunny that you need!

Take care

Hi Donna so glad to hear you might at last have some answers, and hopefully if youve got some information they can at least be able treat you, I do so hope its a blood thing and they can sort it out for you. Its been such a worrying time for us as we were concerned about you.

Hi Donna, so glad to hear there seems to be an answer to all your symptoms. And I must say that this one sounds a lot better than the Guillan Barre Syndrome. I have been reading up on that too wanting to know what you might possibly have and was not amused with all the things I read about it!! So hopefully they will kick you out permanently in the coming days and give you some treatment that quickly takes aways those annoying symptoms. Big hug, Frea
